The Story Of Us

Our Courtship...

Before I knew it I was in Mayfield. The second I got in the car the butterflies started and got worse the closer I got to his house. The second I walked in I was bombarded by the dogs. Fozzy and Zoe, who were miniature Poodles and Shark Bait, who is a one of a kind. Whit was watching Sports Center sitting in the chair by the front room window. I’ll never forget how amazing I thought he looked. His family was in California, so it was just the two of us. We talked and laughed and played the question game for the next few hours and before I knew it, it was 2 in the morning.

The next day the single’s ward went up to the Manti Temple and fed all the actors in that year’s Manti Pageant. Whit and I rode over together and stuck close to each other for the most part. When we were done feeding everyone we all sat down and ate. Whit made sure he sat by me. The next few weeks were some of the most special weeks of my life. We were together every night and became really close. After a few weeks he became my best friend. Our first kiss was on July 3rd. We had just gotten back to my house after watching the fireworks. And it was amazing. (This is the cheesiest thing you’re ever going to hear) But it took my breath away. Literally. I got a little dizzy from it.

We were together almost every day that summer. We had a special spot up Mayfield Canyon that was our spot. Anytime we wanted something to do, we went up there. (It’s still our spot.) The night before I went to Snow, we went there. While cuddling on some blankets he told me he loved me...

I lived in Ephraim while I went to school. I remember calling into work at Subway and asking for hours every day I could so I would have a reason to come home and be with Whit. He’d go north to be with me sometimes too. There were a few nights in there we weren’t able to be together and I hated it. School went by really fast. For Halloween we dressed up as Santa Clause and an Elf. I was a cute little elf:) We went to the Halloween Dance up at Snow and then we went over to Ian’s apartment to watch a movie. We watched a movie called “Artifacts” and it was the stupidest movie I’ve ever seen! But the night was fun... I didn’t get home till way late that night and had to be to work early the next day.

We ate Thanksgiving dinner with all 3 parents. It was the first time I’d ever ate 3 Thanksgivings in a row. I’m sure I gained 10 lbs. But we didn’t want any parent to feel left out on the holiday so we made it work. (It’s a good thing we have parents that are flexible when it comes to time...)

On December 6th, Whit and I went up to temple square to look at the lights. We stopped at the mall on our way up to shop a little. He bought me new pants... While walking around, he said “Maybe it’d be a good idea to look at some rings while we’re up here. Just so I know what you like...” I thought he’d already bought the ring. He’d been teasing me since October saying he “might” have it. At that moment I really thought he was serious and realized he didn’t have the ring. But I tried not to let my disappointment show. I wanted to have a good night. I figured he would propose on Christmas. We stopped and ate dinner at Fazoli’s in Draper.

When we got to Salt Lake, it was impossible to find a parking spot... So we had to walk a good mile to the temple. We ended up walking clear around the Salt Palace. As we rounded the street corner we saw the horse and carriage line outside the temple grounds. We got in line and waited our turn... A good 45 minutes later we finally got in a carriage. Our driver’s name was Craig and he was missing all of his teeth. He was quite the talker but very nice. He asked if we wanted to go around the temple or take a trip through Salt Lake. Of course we chose Salt Lake... A week earlier at the Subway Christmas party Whit told me I had to eat a piece of Shrimp in order to get my ring. After putting up a fight I finally ate the bug. (Nasty) So he started our carriage conversation with “Remember how I made you eat that shrimp...” After telling me how much he loved me and how I was the person he wanted to spend his forever with... He pulled out the ring. My Ring. Tears ran down my cheeks as he asked me to marry him. After sitting there a couple seconds I managed to squeak out a yes.

I knew what day I wanted to get married... February 20th. The date was an even Friday and it was only 2 months away. I knew I’d have to get going on wedding plans fast. I scheduled our engagement pictures the next day and started preparing. It was a crazy couple months having Christmas, my birthday, and a wedding to plan... But it helped the time go by and everything went smooth and worked out. We took our engagement pictures after the Christmas Break in January up in Maple Grove. We had a lady from Oak City take our pictures and they turned out beautiful.

I had my bridal pictures taken later in January. They turned out beautiful as well but boy did I freeze my butt off! By the end of the shoot, my hands were purple. Wedding dress shopping was stressful. I looked at a TON of dresses but none of them were “the dress”. I ended up finding it in Richfield. It was simple but very elegant... which is what I wanted.

The final week before our wedding was the longest week of my life.
